Spend some special time with fly fishing and know what real fun is. Fly fishing rod is a combination of a rod, a wheel with some fly line. This is an enjoyable way of fishing and it will help to remove some stresses from your life. Interested in fishing? Well, you need to know how to set up a fly fishing rod then. Many websites will provide you with so many techniques to set up the fly rod. Most of them will inform you about the complicated knots which will make you confuse. Follow this information to understand how you can set up fly rod easily. Fly rod helps you to properly cast a fly line and prevents the shock you get while playing the fish.
Fly Rod have different weights that help you to catch fish in most of the places. There is a fishing rod from #5 to #8 rating. This rating is for all kind of fishing situations like #8 weight fly rod is for big rivers and lakes and large fish. You can use a #7 flying rod in a windy area. A #6 is a good fishing rod for vast or medium river and lakes. But the #5 it the first choice for expert fishermen because they know that this rod is light in weight and they just know how to play with the fish effectively with this kind of rod.
All type of equipment required to set up the fly rod
1. The reel
The reel is the storage for the fly line. It has to be set up at the bottom of the fly tod. Fly rod reel has a drag system that helps you to maintain the fishing line. You can play with the fish as you want by freely dragging the lines with the reel. If you are doing fly fishing, always try to hold the rod with steady and strong hands. A right-handed man holds the rod with the right hand and the reel with the left hand to drag the fish line freely.
2. Fly line
one of the important parts of the fly rod is the fly line. Fly line comes with different weights. Just remember to use the right fly line. You should match equally, the weight of the fly line and the weight of the rod you are using to catch fish. There are floating fly line that has less weight and floats on the water, there are sinking fly line which has more weight than floating fly line and goes deep in the water. A sinking fly line is good in windy condition. The difference between weight is helpful in its own way to catch fish. Try to buy a better fly line for long lasting.
A leader is attached with the fly line with some knot. The leader plays a vital role as a shock absorber while playing the fish. The leader is tapered, thick in the starting and then getting thin through the endpoint. The thicker end is connected to the fit line. The leader comes with different kind of lengths.
4. Tippet material
Tippet material is made of nylon and it is connected next to the leader portion to extend the fly line. You should make a knot with the leader and join the tippet part.
The fly is the main part of the fly rod. Choose your fly size according to the fish you want to catch. There are some kinds of flies. There are dry flies which are effective on river and streams, there is wet fly maintaining the depth of the water, and for small fishes, you can use a lure. Always use flies according to the water and the size of the fish you want to catch. If you are not so much experienced then try to use a guide to select the exact fly you need.
Follow the steps that will help you out in setting up a fly rod
1. Connecting every part
Wetting all the fishing knots are important before tightening to have a good grip. Tightening knot usually heats up the area led to the breakage of that area. Not only wetting cools the fishing lines but too reduces friction and breakage.
2. Connecting backing to reel
With the help of the arbour knot, you can easily tie up the backing and the reel together. To tie an arbour knot you have to tie the overhand knot first then the simple knot over it. These two overhand knots support each other. One knot holds the fishing line in the place and the other one behaves like a stopper.
Slowly tighten the knot and do wet the fishing line. While tightening you will realise that the line settles into place. With the help of the reel, you will be able to wind the backing after it is connected.
3. Connecting fly lines to that of backing
Here comes loop to loop connection. Having a fly line with the welded loop is all you need, to avoid the headache of nail knot tools.
You need to tie a surgeon’s loop as this is the place in which the fly line is to be connected. The surgeon’s loop should be large enough in which the entire spool can go into the backing loop.
Once the surgeon’s loop is tied to the backing, it is the time to pass the larger loop into the welded loop of the fly line.
Plastic spool must be passed into the loop of the backing. After setting all the loops together, pull the two lines in the opposite direction then fly line must be spool up with the help of the reel.
4. Connecting leader to the fly line
It is another loop to loop connection. The welded loop must be passed through the loop presents at the end of your leader. The tip area of the leader should be passed in between the welded loop of fly line.
In case of not having a loop tied at the end of your leader, you may tie a surgeon’s loop at the end. Basically, the surgeon’s loop is the key to your entire problem.
5. Time to connect tippet to leader
Now the time has arrived for surgeons’ knot. It is the time in which you will bind the two lines with a small knot instead of forming loops.
To tie a surgeon’s knot you need to form a loop and pass both the lines into the loop two times. In this case, too you have to wet the line and slowly should tighten the knots.
6. Time to connect fly with the tippet
There are basically two ways of connecting the flies. If you select dry fly or nymph than improved inch knot is the one for you. Working with large flies or streamers demands the non-slip mono loop.
Unlike the improved clinch knot, the non-slip mono loop does not tightly hold down the hook led to the free movement of the fly. The natural movement of the fly allowed by the non-slip mono loop attracts fish more.
The improved clinch knot safely tightens the loop, so it does not break though you can not apply this loop for large flies.
